ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 28, 2011
The Golden Living Center Branch is asking for us to help the sisters individually at the Temple. They go every 4th Friday for the 10:00 am Session. They will be ready to go and dressed in their white dresses. Also, if you have any extra ordinance clothing, they are in need of these items. Please let someone in the RS Presidency know if you can help with either of these offers and we will contact Debra James for you.
For those who were unable to sign up for tickets for the RELIEF SOCIETY GENERAL MEETING on September 24th, we still have 21 more tickets available. Please either respond to me by email or call a member of the RS Presidency to request tickets.
September is the month for Relief Society to CLEAN THE CHURCH. You can sign up by responding to this email if you would like to. Help is needed for Mondays, September 12th, 19th and 26th at 4:00. If you didn't sign up and have a change of plans, you are always welcome to drop by and help.
The Empty Nesters FAMILY HOME EVENING Group will meet on September 12th. Sister Tucker's daughter will teach us all about the Constitution.
Jolene Dearden is storing FROZEN DINNERS to be available as needed. If you would like to donate a meal, please contact Jolene. She has pans and recipies available if you would like to use them. Please contact her at 801-969-2548.
LouAnne Schwendiman would like to know if anyone is interested in doing some DRY PACK CANNING. Call her to arrange a time. Dry foods can be purchased through the church facility or any other source. A list of foods is on the RS table or you can check with LouAnne. For those new to Dry Pack Canning, the cans are large and hold about 5.8 pounds of wheat. The cost for can and lid is $1.00 per can. You just need to bring your wheat, sugar, rice, oats or any dry foods (some people bring M & M's) to LouAnne's house and she will help you seal the lids on. Her number is 801-966-7928.
RELIEF SOCIETY NIGHT will be held on Wednesday, September 14th. We will be discussing BALANCING HEALTH IN YOUR LIFE with Physical Health by Kim Roper, Spiritual Health by Bishop Kendall and Mental Health by Carol Brady. We will have samples of Green Smoothies.
VISITING TEACHING: Please take a tablet and pen with you when you visit this month. We would like you to ask each of your sisters on your route to tell you what their skills and talents are that they may be willing to share with us. Also ask what their interests of what they would like to learn might be. Please let you visiting teaching supervisor know what your sisters tell you. Also, ask the sisters you visit if they would like to receive the announcements via our email list.
Please check the Relief Society Table in the hall before you leave for home each Sunday to see if there are any GET WELL CARDS to sign.
VOLUNTEER HUSBANDS: Please let us know if your husband would like to help out with CHILD CARE for our Relief Society Weekday Meetings.
Does anyone in the ward have access to a Vinyl Lettering machine that we could use for projects? Please respond by email or Call Kathy Grothaus at 955-6620.
Please let me know if there is anything you would like to add to our announcement emails. We can offer "give away" items but cannot sell things.

Zucchini Recipes !!
You can only have so much zucchini bread before you go crazy.
With every one's garden bursting with wonderful, green bounty it seems that everyone is looking for something new to use up their crop.
If you have a great recipe that uses ZUCCHINI please email Chris Olson at spyswife@gmail.com so we can share it with our fellow sisters.
Here is what the Olson Bunch is having for dinner tonight- a simple zucchini casserole that even the kids will eat....
-----------------------------------------------------
3/4 lb zucchini, grated (not peeled- we just cut it into chunks)1 lg onion, minced (actually, we hate onions, I just added a few dashes of onion salt)
3 slices bacon, minced (eh- we're out of bacon so I added about 1/2 cup pre cooked breakfast sausage, minced)
4 oz shredded cheddar cheese ( or more- can you have too much cheese in anything?)
1 C. flour
1/2 C. vegetable oil
5 eggs, slightly beaten
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
---
Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. Pour into a buttered casserole pan and bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes until golden.
----------------------------------------
Even my kids will eat this thanks to the cheese factor.
Now it's your turn!
Send in your summer squash recipes please!!

Mom's No-Fail Pie Crust Recipe (from the kitchen of Nancy Merrill)
My mom makes the best pie crust. The secret? Lard. I know, I know. Lard is evil. Not really. It's just gotten a bad rap from the shortening people.
Ingredients:
2-1/2 C flour
-1 C lard (full cup if using shortening)
1 tsp salt
1 egg
1/4 C milk
1 Tbl vinegar
Combine flour and salt. With a pastry cutter, cut in lard/shortening.
In a small bowl, beat egg, milk, and vinegar. Add to flour mixture all at once. Mix with a fork. Form into a ball. Chill for at least 30 minutes.
When you are ready to roll out the crust, cover the surface lightly with flour. Be sure to put flour on your rolling pin as well. Divide your crust in half for deep-dish or thirds for standard size. Form portion into a ball and place on surface. Carefully roll from center of ball out at all angles until about 1/4 inch thick.
Carefully place in pie dish and press gently into place. Add filling. Place dabs of butter on top of filling. If using a double crust, roll out and place top crust on pie, crimp edges, and put several small slits in top.
You can use the remaining crust for turnovers or small pies.

Cooking with Wheat
On Wednesday, August 10th Joie Tucker gave a GREAT class on things you can do with wheat.
She showed us how to make gluten and what it could be used for.
So much great information! I personally have 400 pounds of wheat in my storage that I figured we'd just have to eat a ton of bread with if the need ever came up. Now I know I can supplement the proteins in my cooking, make easy breakfasts for the kids and even use wheat in things like stir-fry. Suddenly, my supply of #10 cans of wheat are now more than just a way to hold shelves up.
I'm scanning the recipe books she used and will get them out to the Sisters as soon as I get finished.
In the meantime, enjoy these pictures from our fun evening.

Under Construction!
Along with the facebook page, I'm setting up a blog to share newsletters, announcements and information for the ward.
I'll make thi spage cute soon, I promise.
I need 2-3 women to help serve as admin for the blog as well as the FB page, if you think you can help (I can't see it being more than a few minutes a week) please let me know.
Otherwise, this may take me a month or twelve to get set up.
:)
