100 Dresses

May's Activity was the Night of The 100 Dresses.
The theme from the activity was taken from a story by Elenor Estes titled "The Hundred Dresses."
It tells the story of a young girl who, although she wore the same faded blue dress every day- had dreams that were bigger than her circumstances as she surprised her classmates and inspired them with her 100 dresses, all lined up in a row.

For a few months we've been asking the sisters to go through their closets and donate unused dresses to be donated to a local women's organization that helps provide women with suitable clothing as they re-enter the work force after sometimes some very bad situations. They also help these women to have something to wear to church, as in some situations these women leave a bad situation with only the clothes on their backs.

The goal was to collect 100 Dresses and the T-ville 9th ward ladies really went above and beyond and we collected 163 dresses over the course of a few months. The shelter was thrilled to have such a large donation of exactly what they were in need of and the women of Salt Lake County have been blessed by your efforts and love, Sisters.

And we were all blessed with a fashion show by the Primary girls, showing off some of those dresses.
What beautiful girls we have!

The evening was finished off with cupcakes, people were asked to bring 1 dozen of their fanciest, most creative cupcake. There were orange cupcakes, fresh carrot with maple frosting, coconut lime, strawberry and so many more amazing sweets.

Next month's activity will be focused on Visiting Teaching, followed in July by the yearly garden party at June Thacker's.

Happy Birthday!

Last week we held our Relief Society Birthday party, it was loads of fun!

The theme was "My Favorite Things" and we enjoyed a great meal of baked potatoes, salad and lemonade.
Everyone had a fun time visiting and sharing their own favorite things in the gift swap. We even had a few gifts from past presidents of the General Relief Society and learned some fun things about their lives.

We'd  like to send out a very big thank you to Becky Davis, Betty's daughter, for blessing us with her amazing voice as she sang "These Are a Few of My Favorite Things."

To those who helped out and brought food and just came to share an evening of sisterhood and laughter--thank you!

December Relief Society Meeting

Thanks to those who came out to our December Meeting and for those who are showing such patience  as the year ends and the new presidency works to get things on track.
We had some great handmade cards put together that will be mailed to http://www.give2thetroops.org/

We also had fun decorating sugar cookies (sorry they tasted like frosted hockey pucks, Sister Olson makes great candy, but lousy cookies) and delivered them to the bishopric and a few other homes in the ward.
FYI--we're going to have a nursery available from now on for all Relief Society Night activities, if nobody shows up to use it by 7:30, we will close it up and send our helpers home.

There were quite a few different types of cookies and hot cocoa and it was a nice, quiet time to just visit and relax.

Starting in January, we're going to be doing visiting teaching interviews and making a few changes to the routes.

We really appreciate those who extended prayers and fasting for Sister Thayne this month, she said she felt the support and her pain was lessened by it. While she is in the Legacy Center, she really could use some company, she's unable to read or crochet due to how much it hurts to put any pressure on her hip, and the TV shows are getting pretty boring.
Those of you who can, please go stop by and say hi to her and Don, or swing by the house and make sure Betty has her chocolate needs met. :)

The Fowers family moved this week to California-- just when we all got to know them!! We will miss them and the energy and compassion Nikki brought to our ward in the short time they were here.
We really have an amazing ward and while it's been a year filled with changes, some big losses and trials for many, the love that is shared and the special spirit this ward has makes such a difference. You each touch lives in more ways than you realize and have changed the lives of others for good. Thank you so much for your service, your love and the willingness you have shown to center your lives around the Savior.

Ward Holiday Party 2011

A big thank you to all who helped with the ward party this year!

Kristi Smith put in a lot of work into the evening and we had a really good turn out.
The ward enjoyed a great dinner, yummy desserts and the BEST company ever.  Friends, family and neighbors were there, all enjoying the food and each other.

We watched a DVD of The Christmas Orange and probably ate way too many desserts ( I want the recipe for that chocolate sheet cake....) and listened to the primary kids sing a couple of songs about The Savior.

Here some of  our pictures from tonight, there will also be more pictures on facebook. If you're not there already- our ward page is located at http://www.facebook.com/groups/149645311783262/

Larry Hiller made my  personal favorite house....

The Andrus Family won  the competition. They did a model of the ward house building across the street, complete with cars in the parking loy. Great job!!
